My culinary experience today was, to say the least, an emotional rollercoaster ride. This might seem like a funny thing to say, but let me explain; When I entered the takeaway i noticed that my favourite fried snack was listed as "Battered Savaloy" which i havent seen before - generally it;s just listed at a battered sav. This in-depth listing was the first high of the ride - i thought "if they went to the trouble of listing it's full name they must have a lot of respect for the sav..." So i ordered one then came back in 3-5 minutes and it was ready for a-samplin'. Then the lows of this rollercoaster hit - she offered sauce - this is'nt to say it's neccesarily a bad thing - but as regular readers know, in my honest opinion - sauce should only be put on a sub-standard sav. But who knows - maybe the nice greek lady is used to the evatt bogans who wouldnt know a good sav if they... uhh... ate one... anyway i politely turned the sauce down in liu of a bit of salt. Then i got back to my car and another emotional low hit - this sav was pretty damn smooth and I have found that genarally a smooth sav is a dodgy one... But i was determined to give this sav a fair go and i had a sample. and WHOA. That was a DAMN FINE SAV. the batter was so thin and crispy, letting the full flavour of the spiced pork really let it's self be known. I rarely get a sav this good, and this was the final high of the emotional rollercoaster ride, and I am really glad that it ended on a high. I am awarding this sav an 8.5 because it's not the best i've had but it was a real winner and i definatly will be heading over to evatt when im in the palmerston / ngunnawal region because it is by far the best sav in the vicinity - well done evatt - you've made a sav which is truly fit for a king.
