BEST EVER recipe!

My 8 yr old was begging for a battered sav for dinner this evening. Being "cheap" (as my children say)I decided to try to make them myself and found your site!.

After reading the recipes on batteredsav.com we came up with our own:

1: Make sure savs are dry

2. Roll savs in plain flour and shake off the excess.

3: Make the batter - we used

i. equal amounts of cornflour and plain flour (about a cup of each which was enough for 4 savs)

and

ii. milk - start with half a cup and add and mix until the batter becomes "gluggy" like really thick thick paint or sloppy cement.

4: Your oil. We used a pot of oil on the stove top and waited until it was hot enough to cook chips in. Test the oil with a wooden spoon, if the spoon starts to bubble when you shove it in the oil, your oil is hot enough.

5: Dip savs one at a time in the batter and shove them in the oil for ONLY about one minute or until the initial batter dip has set. Remove and drain on kitchen paper.

6: HERE IS THE SECRET!!!!
Dip savs one at a time in the batter AGAIN and fry until golden with bits of brown on them.

DOUBLING DIPPING IS THE SECRET!!!!

ENJOY!
